Knee Pain Treatment in Lincoln
Whether we want to engage in our favorite sport or just climb the stairs of our house we need our knees. Unfortunately, the knee takes the brunt of issues in our hips and ankles when we’re moving and engaging in various activities.
Assessing for Structural Damage
First, we need to assess the knee to make sure that there’s no structural damage such as tears in the ligaments. For example, if someone has a meniscus tear we would refer out for such a case as it would require surgery.
In the cases where a person doesn’t require surgery, we want to help them strengthen their quads and calves, making sure that every bone in their foot is moving properly. We want to make sure there are no restrictions there. Lots of times, we’ll also see heel issues, such as plantar fasciitis, which can cause some knee problems as well. Often, that’s an issue where the calcaneus (heel bone) needs to be adjusted.
X-rays will also be taken to see if there’s any unleveling that’s causing some imbalances. So the farther down from the imbalance, the worse it’s going to be. Consider the Leaning Tower of Pisa: it doesn’t seem like it’s off much at the bottom, but then it just leans more. It’s the same thing if a person’s hips are off.
Addressing Knee Pain Through Adjustments
If the hips are off, Dr. Spencer does a lot of adjustments there. We do a specific protocol to test to see how their tailbone is moving and then do adjustments to the person’s hips, tailbone, and trochanter of the femur.
How Long Does Healing Take?
Knee pain doesn’t go away quickly because there’s not a lot of vascularity or fluid going to the area so it takes longer to heal. And when the cartilage in there is damaged, if it can heal, it’s a very slow process.
